The Nissan Navara 2018 has been a well received and solid release for Nissan Australia. Soon we could see a couple of new off road arrivals here in the Nissan Navara AT32 and the Nissan Terra. These cars have recently been tested in Morocco, and if they can handle the Sahara, they should be a good fit here. These two cars have really caught the attention of Nissan Australia, and they are making strong cases to ensure an Australian release. Let’s take a closer look at what we’ve learned so far.
The Navara AT32
This is a modified dual cab ute with some high quality equipment installed onboard. Some of the highlights include a safari snorkel, modified shock absorbers, and springs, underbody protection, new wheels, and all terrain tyres. This package turns an already capable off roader into a very strong all terrain vehicle.
Karla Leach is the corporate communications officer for Nissan Australia, and she has told industry insiders that they are setting their sights on an AT32 release here. When interviewed on the subject Leach said “We are actively working on securing the AT32 for Australia,” she went on to say. “we believe it would be a popular addition to the Navara lineup for Australian customers.”
This would seem like a natural fit for Australian off road enthusiasts. We are all aware of the strength of the SUV segment here in Australia, but in recent years we have also seen a rise in the popularity of luxury dual cab utes. It seems that a hard working ute that you could use a luxury off road family car at the weekend is here to stay.
The Nissan Terra
This is also a vehicle that would be a natural fit for the Australian car market. The Terra is powered by a d2.5 litre four cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, and it’s paired with a seven speed automatic transmission. It has a locking rear differential, good ground clearance, a ramp over to improve approach and departure and great low range gearing. This is a great four wheel drive wagon that could really capture the imagination of off roading fans in Australia.
The Nissan Off Road Stable
Nissan has been very generous with their off roading releases here in Australia in recent years. We have the Nissan Patrol Y62 which has real off roading capabilities. For those with softer SUV needs, there is the Nissan Pathfinder, and finally, we already have the Nissan Navara four wheel drive wagon. The Navara is a family friendly four wheel drive wagon with plenty of cabin space, and these are all selling points for the new Terra. Despite this, Kate Leach thinks that the Terra is a good candidate for a release here, she recently said “The Terra is a vehicle that we think would work well in Australia,” and she added, “however a launch in Australia is still under investigation.”
